To the community of East Spencer,

I have had the honor to serve the Town of East Spencer as Chief of Police for exactly one year and I must say this year has gone by so fast. I would like to take the time to update the East Spencer Community on what changes and additions our police department has under gone in just a short year. We have grown our department in several areas regarding equipment, technology and most importantly personnel.

Equipment:

Our department has not only added three brand new Chevrolet Impalas outfitted with the latest safety equipment, but we are also in the process of overhauling three of our Ford Crown Vics with fresh paint and matching graphics to show a more unified patrol vehicle fleet. Our officer’s have also been outfitted with new tactical vests for an increased level in officer safety as well as new uniforms that will feature our new patch design.

Technology:

It is vital to keep ahead of the curve regarding today’s technology and the ability to access and share information with other officers and other police agencies. Our officer’s have gone to several Law Enforcement only computer classes this year and been certified in several high level criminal database instructional training courses in order to not just retrieve information quicker, but also to process it and share it. This makes this department more efficient and saves time in retrieving data from daily traffic stops to criminal cases.

Our website was launched only 9 months ago and since then our stats continue to climb of our community accessing it to see what their police department is doing in their community, what news we are updating as well as people we are looking for that the community can help us locate. It has already become a common site to view online to our citizens in the Town of East Spencer.

Personnel:

This is by far the foundation of the East Spencer Police Department. From my appointment as Chief we had just 6 officers. This number has doubled in just one year and is projected to grow over the next 12 months. Our current officers are comprised of full time, part time and reserve positions. With a higher number of officers than years past it is vital to develop training and structure so with this in mind we now have two Corporal positions in our department that are held by Cpl.  and Cpl. . Technology and equipment only work if you have the bodies to implement them on the street and in the community. Our patrols have been able to double and even triple in areas to better serve the community.

In closing, the East Spencer Police Department has been hard at work to provide the Town of East Spencer a higher level of protection and service. I look forward to this next year with even more growth, increasing communication and servicing our community.
